Creating a website. The Young Soldier Course

  • I was once asked to give a short seminar at the high school where I once studied, on creating a website.
In the process of writing this speech, I thought that it could be a material that might be useful to many beginners in the field of web design,
web page layout, etc. I make no pretense to the truth in the first instance,
and everything stated is a purely personal view of the work with design and code.
Article gives a superficial look at the concepts and tools which, in my opinion, can be a good start for someone who is ready to go further.

Conventionally, the process of creating a site (web-project) can be divided into 3 stages:

– Planning
– Design
– Development

–  Planning

This stage can be divided into several sub-stages:

Creation of an idea
Elaboration of the project structure
Elaboration of the project’s layout

Creation of the idea

  • At this stage, we must decide on the subject of the project (site, service).
Then, in accordance with the chosen topic, you need to collect the appropriate materials: text, graphics.
  • When we decided on the topic of the project, we have selected the necessary material, the next step is to develop the structure of the project.
The structure of the project implies the sections of the site,
in accordance with which the navigation menu will be formed and the design of the project will be built.
At this stage, you can classify the material by topics and sections.

Elaboration of the project’s layout

–  Once we have decided on the structure of the project, you can make a project layout (schematically).

To draw the outline you can use paper and pen, Photoshop, any other graphics editor (previously often used Adobe Fireworks).
It is important to note that this stage is not a rendering of the finished design layout,
but only a schematic sketch made to understand how the site will be located the main information blocks, graphics and other design elements.

The main elements of the page

Often the main elements of the page are: the containing block (wrapper, container), logo, navigation, content, footer (footer), free space (in fact, free space – is not an element of design, but the concept of keeping in mind when drawing up the layout of the page, our project will not look like a clutter of blocks).

Containing block (container)

The role of container on the page can be performed directly element body or div. The width of the containing block can be rubber (fluid), and can be fixed.

Text or graphic component of the project and distinguishes it from others.
Logo is usually located in the upper left corner of the page or in the middle (depending on the idea, the layout).

The main navigation bar contains links to the main sections of the site.
Navigation bar is often located at the top of the page (regardless of whether the navigation is vertical or horizontal).
